Confused Confucianism II

Book X of the Analects describes some ways which Confucius conduct himself as a person. It's my turn to be confused.

10. He did not converse at meals; nor did he talk in bed. [erm no one usually talks when they're in bed.. (unless they're sleep-talking) so.. wad's so special?]

12. He did not sit, unless his mat was straight [if not will poke his backside?]

19. During an illness, when his lord paid him a visit, he would lie with his head to the east, withi his court robes draped over him and his grand sash trailing over the side of the bed. [tsk. sick also cannot sleep properly.]

24. When in bed, he did not lie like a corpse [HUH?!], nor did he sit in the formal manner of a guest when by himself [erm. so?].

100th Post!

Almost 1/2 year later, it has reached its 100th Post!
Of cuz I take this post to do something special, something which I rarely do...

To numero uno:

Confused Confucianism I

welcome to the first part of the series "Confused Confucianism". i dunno how long this series will last, but as long as it amuses me. =P

Quote from The Analects, Book XI, 13 (Penguin Classics Edition)

When in attendance on the Master, Min Tzu looked respectful and upright; Tzu-lu looked unbending; Jan Yu and Tzu-kung looked affable. The Master was happy.
'A man like Yu will not die a natural death'

wow. happy then curse people. wonder who is confused here.

ok to be fair, the translator's note wrote "This remark seems out of place here. It probably belongs to another context". true. so now the editor(s), if any, were really confused.

this is no good.

An except from my Financial Maths 2 notes:

"The difference in yields at different maturities reflects market beliefs about future interest rates. If there is a possibility that rates might be higher in the future, longterm loans will have to charge a higher rate than short-term ones. Typically the yield does increase with maturity, due to increased uncertainty about far-distant interest rates, but if current rates are high and expected to fall, the yield curve can become “inverted” and long-term bond yields will be less than short-term bonds. A good model should be able to cope with both these possibilities."

but this is what i see (click to see larger image):
this is no good. no good at all.
